Encourage Social Sharing of Your Content

If you are going to put the effort into writing content, you may as well make it work for you. If you’re sending a weekly, monthly or quarterly e-newsletter, don’t let the reach of your message finish at the inbox of your contacts (and hopefully their friends and colleagues when they pass it on).  Help encourage your contacts to share your message even more broadly through the use of Social Networking Sites. Here’s 3 simple steps to make that easy for your contacts:

  • Publish the content of your e-newsletter on your own website.
  • Include in your email a little thumbnail image of the logo of the most popular social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn etc with text beside it encouraging people to share your message with their network.
  • Hyperlink the image to the social networking site in the format required by the social networking site to make it really fast for your contact to click and store the content.
  • For example, your Facebook link would be formatted like this:
(Where the content after the u is the URL, or website address, where you published your e-newsletter content)

You can quite easily find out the format needed for each social networking site from the information pages on those sites.
