Because they can and it's fun! ;-) 2. The convo is kept "private" - without everyone else listening in 3. It's a way to make contact if you are shy (I'm not sure how many 12 year olds would walk over to a complete stranger and start a conversation in that particular setting, but I could be wrong!)
